Tele-Health Sessions
What Are Tele-Health Sessions?
Tele-health sessions are sessions that are conducted using video-conferencing or telephone discussion. At Deep Blue Psychology we use a secure video-conferencing platform called Coviu which offers end-to-end encryption. Alternatively, clients may opt to conduct sessions via other video-conferencing platforms or telephone consultations.
Benefits of Tele-Health
Tele-health offers the benefit of flexibility in that clients can be anywhere in the world to access our psychological services. This is particularly useful for clients who live in rural or remote locations, do FIFO work, are agorophobic (fearful of leaving the house), or have a busy schedule that means that it is difficult to find a suitable time to come into the office.
Research indicates that therapy is just as effective over tele-health as it is in person.
Disadvantages of Tele-Health
The disadvantages of tele-health are that you miss the in-person connection with your therapist. As therapists, we don’t get to see all of the non-verbal language that we get to see in person. And for some clients it can feel more distant too.
With telephone consultations, we miss the non-verbal communication, and so video-conferencing is our preferred method of tele-health if possible.
